I've recently started using the convenience of "Hibernate" with all my PCs; the 2 running Win2k (SP4) hibernate and wake up exactly as they are supposed to, but the WinXP (SP2) machine hibernates and wakes up OK the very first time, but when asked to hibernate again, will hang forever at the "preparing to hibernate" prompt.

Thanks in advance for any help/ideas.

Many thanks for the quick response. I've delved through the links you posted, but have yet to find an answer. All the BIOS settings are correct, and according to the notes it should work. The odd thing in my case is that the "hibernate" works perfectly the very first time, and then hangs the second time…

You wouldn't happen to have Nero installed on your computer? I don't know if you're still having this problem, but I've seen that this can be caused by certain versions of Nero. I think it's version 5 that causes this. Here's the Microsoft article for further details: http://forums.techguy.org/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=5906432
Ah, so that's it! Yes, I'm using Nero 6.6.0.8 on that machine; at least I now know what's happening. I guess I'll just have to stay awake while I'm fiddling (while CD-ROMs are burning in the background :) )

Many thanks -

I use Nero, also, and just wanted to say that as a solution you might try updating to a newer version. Then, you can hibernate and continue to use Nero. Glad I could help.
