My goodness, pages are taking up to 45 seconds to load at present.

Going elsewhere until things speed up again. Has anyone ever found out why this happens?

It's much quicker than that for me tonight, although not as quick as it usually is. :)

Hello belenus,

I can't get from one part of the site to another at times, the pages freeze. Perhaps it's something to do with my cable supplier. But it's very annoying.

Giving up for a while.

I can imagine it must be frustrating Penny. I'm with NTL cable, and on occassions that can get slow, but I've learnt to get around it by switching to a different invisible proxy. I would guess, as you come from the UK, you're on either Blueyonder, or NTL -- they both use invisible proxy caches, and it is possible to use a different one when things go slow.

There is a program called Web Proxy Probe available from Soulsoft software ( LINK ) which can help you use the other servers. It's freeware, from the same people who make Emotipad. If you should decide to give it a try, let me know and I can give you a link to a page that has a list of the servers for the two main cable companies in the UK, you'll need that.

Hello,

Yes, that's right, I am with Blueyonder. Many thanks for the link. Is it easy to set up a proxy? I would probably need some guidance. Would things like Zone Alarm have to be reset?

I use Mozilla - I expect the proxy will be for IE. I will look now.

Bye

Adding my 2 cent's worth from bankrupt Calif(doing this before the power and water run out).My connection is a dialup on Juno.2-3 times a week I find that this site is very slow moving from page to page.Has nothing to do with my connection, because I can access web pages from other sites at normal speed when this site is very slow.

Well I have DSL and it's still slow...we actually have two other threads in the "sites and suggests forum" on the same topic.

It's likely because the site is getting so big and full of information that it takes so much time to load. Not sure tho'.

But yes it is very slow loading. Annoying.

Funny, doesn't seem at all slow to me from the time this thread started. I'm on 33,200 dial-up modem. I've seen it slow, really slow, but it doesn't seem that way to me now. Most of you who have posted about slow are not from the Continental United States. I wonder if that could be a factor. Routing?

Hello folks:)

Thanks for your comments.

The site is usually slow, but it was extremely so yesterday.

Now, today, I am being told that my email address is not valid and that I must enter the correct one, and request a new password.

Really odd:mad: It has taken me 10 minutes or more to actually log in to the site.

You're not alone, I live in The Pacific Northwest and could barely get to the main forums page yesterday! I ran AnalogX's Hyper Trace and it was pretty grim, if I remember right most of the timeouts are QWest hops..

Hello J2C,

No, I had to repeatedly put in my email address and ask for a new password. Eventually I did get one (an all figure one). I want to change it to what it was before.

It was very odd about not accepting my address as valid.

My goodness, Rhett, that was bad. At times my pages froze with the progression bar stuck half way, and would not load, even when pressing F5.

The situation has been better so far today (2.894 seconds to load this page).

I will download hypertrace to use if I happens again.

Thanks,
Penny.

:)
