I am using "Free Ram XP" to monitor my available RAM. For some reason my available ram will drop from over 300 to eventually single digits and of course I can't run anything without re-booting.
Anyone have any idea why this is and how to fix it?
    Thanks in advance--
    Dave

"and of course I can't run anything without re-booting."

Why? Are you getting error messages?
Windows has not trouble running with zero available memory.

Have you run a full virus check?
Have you run a Spyware check with SpyBot or AdAware?

Yes--I run Spybot Ad Aware 2nd Edition (updated) 2 or 3 times a week and except for some sneaky cookies, I have no other problems. I also have recently run an online check (can't think of the name right now) and passed that with flying colors too.

OK Are you getting error messages?? My experience with 3rd party software to free RAM cause more trouble and false info then it's worth. I run only 768 mgs DDR RAM and run some intense software all while multi-tasking. Never had a memory out error. You?

Thanks for coming back at me Emtronics.
I never pay to much attention to my Ram watching software until my machine starts to crawl or worse yet I can't do much of anything and have to re-boot in order to do anything at all. In the past, I could leave my puter on all day and never slow down like this. I'll try running without it for awhile and see if it's the culprit.

How much ram do you have? I'd be more curious to see your startup items, via start, run, type msinfo32 and hit ok, go to software, startup programs, edit, select all, edit, copy and come back and paste.

You use eTrust? Good choice. Do you have the newest program? (not update) version 7.xx

I would uncheck those from start, run, msconfig, startup tab.

    Not sure what these are?

And I wouldn't think any installer needs to start up, but, I'm not sure on that one, if you disable it and can't get on the internet, re-enable it. Maybe Emtronics will know :D I see he posted before me :)

You didn't say how much ram you had?

I get my e trust with my RR cable connection. It is just a version of Zone Labs Pro. I think they may have licenced it and offered it to thier subscibers to make sure that they have a firewall.

ah Aca is on the right track... Go into the Control Panel and look for the icon called FindFast. Open it, and STOP it from running via the menus at the top. When it goes to indexing, it will bring anything to a crawl. That could be one, the other is eTrust. if you have SP2 and ver 6.0xx of eTrust, then that too could be it. Upgrade it to 7 if you can. Even 6.3.0.9 is better. There is an issue with eTrust and ver 6.0 and with corperate version 7, not to be confused with personal cer 7. Confused? sorry :D

    Candy-
I don't see any way to "uncheck" the files that you suggested that I uncheck using start, run, msconfig, startup tab. (I know I'm going to feel real stupid when you tell me how). :)
