Hi, first of all this is my first post on something like this so i hope ive put it in the right place. Basically i've noticed my computer running slower than normal recently so check my processes ( i'm a novice at stuff like this but i presume things taking up more memory slow down your computer), and found multiple svchost.exe taking up more memory then i'd thought they'd use as i think they're just basic processes and not major programs. One is using 86,000 K (86MB?), another 47,000k, and another 24,000K, compared to the other svchost.exe that i can see using less than 4,000K. I'm guessing this is abnormal as i've never seen them up there when i have checked processes in the past although i could be wrong and am sorry if i am . I put this in general security as im not sure if it is a virus which could be causing this?
    This is my system spec:
Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.1
OS Version: Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Home Premium , Service Pack 2, 32 bit
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 4300 @ 1.80GHz, x64 Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 2
    Processor Count: 2
    RAM: 3069 Mb
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT , 512 Mb
    Hard Drives: C: Total - 228121 MB, Free - 61034 MB; D: Total - 10239 MB, Free - 6452 MB;
    Motherboard: Dell Inc. , 0WG864, , ..CN4811171T03JE.
Antivirus: Norton Internet Security, Updated and Enabled

Thanks for any help which can be given and if you require anymore infomation please ask, but as i say im not all that clued up with computers so i might need a bit of guidance. Thanks!

Please click HERE to download and install HijackThis.

Run it and select Do a system scan and save a logfile from the Main Menu.

The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next reply.

    IMPORTANT: Do not fix anything

If Windows is denying access to the Hosts file, disable the UAC and run HijackThis again.

Press the Windows key + R to open a Run box.

    Type msconfig.

    Click OK.

    Select the Startup tab.

You can uncheck just about everything in there.

    Restart the computer.

You should also disable Windows Defender. It's useless.

You won't see much difference if you don't try my instructions:

Sorry i thought i had done that, i unchecked some but not all of them appeared last time i did it it seems? maybe something to do with user account controls? Will disabling the wireless LAN one have any effect on my internet, or the C-Major audio on my sound? Also the Intel Common User Interface and Microsoft Windows Operating System look kind of important should i leave those on?

Everything can be unchecked safely. However, if you find an application not working properly after rebooting, you can recheck it quite easily, the same way. There's no risk involved.

Also, press the Windows key + R to open a Run box.

    Type %temp%

    Click OK.

Delete everything in that folder. If files resist, skip them and proceed with the others.

    Are still having CPU spikes?

I've deleted everything and nothing resisted.
On performance on windows task manager the CPU graph is actually pretty steady compared to normal, but i've only got chrome running and the task manager.
Also I still have an svchost.exe as my highest memory process at 86,000K at the moment.

Nothing to worry about. The svchost.exe processes handle a LOT of services on your computer.
