I've checked properties on my windows xp but system standby is on never. So I can't figured out what's doing it or what setting I need to adjust so I don't get logged off.

    Any help is appreciated.

Are you actually getting logged off?
If you use the welcome screen, when this happens, does it say Logged On under your user name?
If you don't use the welcome screen, do you get a box saying This computer is in use and has been locked?

Check this: Right click the desktop, choose properties, click Screen Saver tab.
Next to the time setting, make sure the box is not checked.
It will say either On resume, password protect or On resume, display Welcome screen
