Hi, I posted this up above before I saw this section. The task bar on my windows xp suddenly went vertical, with the green start button in the top right hand corner. The task bar used to go horizontally on the bottom, with the green start button in the bottom left. Do you know how to get it back to the bottom with the green start button in the bottom left? Thanks a lot,

    M

    Welcome to TSG....

Right click on the taskbar in a blank area and left click lock taskbar
drag the taskbar to bottom of screen
    relock taskbar

    Done.

Thank you very much. However, it doesn't seem to work. When the task bar is unlocked, I can drag it wider (to the left) and make it dissapear (all the way to the right), but I can't make it go horizontal. It is now standing vertical on the right side with the green start button on the top, in the top right-hand corner. I can't seem to lay it down on the bottom.

Are you putting the cursor on the taskbar and holding the left click button down
as you move the cursor to the bottom?
    (taskbar unlocked)

Yes. When I do that placing the cursor on the left edge of the toolbar I can make it wider or narrower, but it doesn't work if I put it on the top and try to pull it down. I can't make it do anything but go wider or more narrow (as it stands vertically). Thanks,

    M

Put the cursor in an "empty" space on the taskbar.

Thank you, but when I put the cursor in an empty space nothing happens at all.

And, THEN drag it to the bottom.

Yes, that's what I meant. When I try to drag it when the cursor is on an empty space, it doesn't catch. It won't be dragged. Only when I put it on the left-hand margin of the toolbar can I drag it anywhere, and then only right or left.

You are selecting between the Start Button (and any running task) and the first icon that is in they QuickLaunch bar?

Yes, I'm trying to drag it from below the start button and everywhere else.

    I will try that website.

Thanks everyone! If you have any more ideas, please let me know. What do you think might have caused it to change all of a sudden? I did a scan with McCafee, which turned up some cookies but nothing else.

I couldn't make anything on that website work for me. Do you think I should call Microsoft? Where do I go for an online chat with someone at Microsoft?
