I am looking for a bare-bones simple telnet client like the EWAN I had in W2K and XP. Can anyone steer me to one?

The Windows client won't do it for you?

EWAN should also work, depending on what you are using it for.

I hadn't found a telnet client previously, but a site (40 tech) came up in a Google search and showed how to activate it. That was the part I hadn't even guessed was needed. Telnet.exe is a proper program. Old EWAN had a few configurations that made it easier but so far I haven't found a version that works in W7.

But this does solve the problem - Thank you.
