When ever I open Internet Explorer or I visit a Webpage, I get an Icon on my Desktop called " tmp " . It appears than disappears. I just noticed this today. Why does it do this? Is it normal?

Does the .tmp file appear "faded" or lighter in colour than the rest of your desktop icons?

Try this:
  1. Go to My Computer
  2. Go to Tools > Folder Options and go to the View tab.
  3. Make sure that Hide protected operating system files is checked. If it's not, check it.

It's already checked. And No, the icon is not faded. How do I fix this?

Hi **__**

Can you post a small screenshot?

If you Right click on the icon and select Properties does it tell you anything?

Yes...the picture of the icon is indeed small.

If you Right click on the icon and select Properties does it tell you anything?

Try this:
  1. Go to Tools > Reset Web Settings...

Does it fix it?
If not, then please follow these steps:
  1. Right click on the file.
  2. Choose Open/Open With... and choose Notepad.
  3. Please copy the contents and paste them here in your next reply.

Have you tried it in a different browser, such as Firefox?

I reset the browser and now it's gone. Thanks!

Anyways, what do you think it was?

I had no clue specifically, but I guessed that is was some messed up setting. Glad you got it fixed. :)
