Solved: Toshiba Laptop Always dark.

    My father in law gave me this laptop. Its a Toshiba Satellite M115-S3144. its always really dark unless in open and close it, the picture flickers in for a few seconds and goes back to really really dark. I was thinking it was an inverter chip. but then i tried to hook it up to a monitor and nothing. hmm.

    More than likely the inverter or backlights are shot. Replacing the screen should take care of it.

    ordered a new inverter chip.

    Agreed, it sounds very much like the backlight / inverter board, this isn't that uncommon in laptops. You should be able to replace just the inverter board, you shouldn't need a entirely new screen.

    but why wouldnt it hook up to a monitor?
