I have a Compaq Presario laptop with Vista OS. I have used the touch pad along with some keyboard short-cuts, and have not used a mouse for years. Not surpprisingly, the touch pad is showing signs of wear. The pointer moves as usual, but I have to use the left click button for opening files instead of taping the touch-pad. Is there any possibility of repair/replacement of the touch-pad? Allan

What's the complete model number of that Compaq Presario laptop?

If you don't know for sure, advise what the product number(P/N) and/or model number(M/N) on the sticker is.

Go into the Device Manager, then click the + in Mice and other pointing devices.

What's the exact name of the touchpad entry?

Right-click that entry, then click Properties, then click the Driver tab.

What's the driver version and driver date listed?

According to that product number, you have a Compaq Presario C508US laptop.

You should add and save this site in your browser favorites/bookmarks list so you can readily refer to it when needed.

Here is the HP article on using and configuring the touchpad.

You appear to have the most current driver installed for Windows Vista.
