The log is clean. Please do this:

    Restart to safe mode.

How to start your computer in safe mode

In safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Go to Start > Run and type %temp% in the Run box. The Temp folder will open. Click Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

    Empty the Recycle Bin

    Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
    Click Properties.
    Click the System Restore tab.
    Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
    Restart your computer.

When you are sure you are clean turn it back on and create a restore point.

Go here and do an online virus scan.

Be sure and put a check in the box by "Auto Clean" before you do the scan. If it finds anything that it cannot clean have it delete it. Make a note of the file location of anything that cannot be deleted so you can delete it yourself.

    To create a restore point:

Single-click Start and point to All Programs.
Mouse over Accessories, then System Tools, and select System Restore.
In the System Restore wizard, select the box next the text labeled "Create a restore point" and click the Next button.
Type a description for your new restore point. Something like "After trojan/spyware cleanup". Click Create and you're done.

thanx again for feedback will get on to it. maybe you can help with a few quick points.

using Mcafees advice i went into safe mode command prompt via f8 button to scan thru dos with updated DAT files as they advised but after clicking on safe mode with command prompt then enter safe mode, after pc is finished booting safe mode screen appears briefly and instead of remaining with c:> it switches to xp login screen which when i click on my log in name safe mode screen appears in full size with smaller window in forefront named cmd.exe. the prompt inside the window reads c:\Documentsand Settings\raymonddoherty>

when i tried to erase file path and type CD then enter system froze. other times i tried it as soon as the cmd.exe window appeared system froze. Why is this. Does this mean my system cannot scan thru DOS for whatever reason . PC is less than a week old am I doing something wrong?

my system is currently got sys restore disabled could this have anything to do with it responding in the way mentioned above; talking of which i notice halfway thru your instructions you suggest disabling Restore should i turn it on again until i reach that point

thanx again for your time and assistance and if there is any security programs you can advise i have on my system it would be appreciated.

i believe in the past you referred me to another site what was it called i think it had internetgeeks in the url. am i close.

hopefully i can get these issues sorted and show you my appreciation by way of a contribution

    thanx again

will b in touch one way or the other
