im not sure what exactly i got (trojan most likely) but my computer has been giving me false security warnings. something about an "internet attack" or "privacy guard" or a security alert about "worm.win32.netsky". it also adds 3 shortcuts to my desktop at start up (something about error correction / spyware protection) and random ie pop-ups... please help. :(

oh, here's my hjt log:

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
  • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new Hijack This log

Download ComboFix to your Desktop.

  • Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log and a new HijackThis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running as that may cause it to stall

Rescan with Hijack This.
Close all browser windows except Hijack This.
Put a check mark beside these entries and click "Fix Checked".

ran hjt and did as you said. hmm, i haven't really done much on my pc yet after the fact.
but i haven't gotten the fake security alerts nor the software pop-ups (or any pop-ups from ie for that matter). the 3 shortcuts that reappear on my desktop every time i reboot seems have ceased recreating itself too. so, so far so good i would say.

thanks for taking the time to walk me through the entire process. you rock! (y) :D

oh, and here's my latest hjt scan log:

Great :)

Now turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer.

Turn System Restore back on and create a restore point.

To create a restore point:

Single-click Start and point to All Programs.
Mouse over Accessories, then System Tools, and select System Restore.
In the System Restore wizard, select the box next the text labeled "Create a restore point" and click the Next button.
Type a description for your new restore point. Something like "After trojan/spyware cleanup". Click Create and you're done.
