Hello guys!

I have a problem here, and I would deeply appreciate it if anyone could offer me some help.

I can't access various search engines of late. I have tried only 3 though: Google, Yahoo and altavista. I can't access into their main page and the only reply I got is: "Cannot find server...The page cannot be displayed" message. The weird thing is I can access other websites without any problem.

I am using IE 6 on Win XP.

So far the steps I have taken, but still unable to resolve the problem:

1) Delete all cookies, temporary files and history of IE/

2) Use Adware 6 and Spybot to eliminate spyware from blocking any sites.

3) http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/trojan.qhosts.html
(To see if there are any Trojans in my computer)

4) Connect my Internet server to my laptop, and yes those sites can be accessed without any problems at all, so I assume the fault lies with something on my PC.

The only thing I am left to do is to reformat everything on my PC. But before I do that, I am just taking a final shot here to see if there is any remedy to this.

Thanks in advance for the help.

yeah...I have the same problem no search engines work, from the the go network (lycos, angelfire, hotbot & etc) to yahoo and it's affilates. Though I found out they're all powered by google...so that may have something to do wit it. i have no idea wut's going on...I found the trojan, Download.Aduent.Trojan but it has nothing to do with the problem i'm experiencing though it does explain why porno windows keeps popping up randomly 7_7...but yeah i don't no wut's going on either but ur not alone

Sometimes downloading and running CWShredder (download link's at the bottom of the page) will resolve the problem.

Even though no trojans were found, it can't hurt to download the Qhosts removal tool and run it as well.

Then be sure to go over to the Windows update sites and get all the "Critical updates and patches" relating to security. Apparently, the Qhosts trojan gains entry through malicious code on a website. I don't know which patch exactly fixes that vulnerability, which is why I recommend getting all of the security updates and patches.
