Solved: unknown error

i am running windows xp home edition with service pack 2 every now and then i get a unknown error. it is a small box comes up in the center of screen and all it says is unknown error. it does not shut any programs down or try to start any. i dont have to be running anything for it to happen it just pops up even when no one is on the computer
any help on this would be great ,,, thanks:D

Well, it's an unknown error, so I don't know how we'll ever help! :D

OK, I guess I have to be serious. :) I'd start by looking in the event logs and see if any clues are there. It's obviously some service or other background application running that's throwing the error.
