Yesterday I received notification of 12 updates, 8 of them for MS Office 2010 and 4 for MS Office 2007. I only have the 2007 version on my computer and installed those four successfully. I do not want or need the updates for Office 2010, but don't know how to delete them from the update notification area. Fortunately, I had previously elected not to download any updates so that I could pick and choose what I wanted to download, so those 8 updates did not download. However, every time I boot up, I get the notification that updates are ready to be downloaded. I always look because there may be some new updates I do need, but then wind up unchecking the same 8 for Office 2010.

How do I permanently get rid of update notifications I don't want or need?

Thanks,
Legality

legality:

I have the same issue with Microsoft Office 2007 updates with my computers that have Microsoft Office 2003 installed because I have the Compatibility Pack For The 2007 Office System installed.

Just uncheck those Microsoft Office 2010 updates from the list, then right-click each one and click "Hide Update".

What are these Office 2010 updates that you do not want?

Some may in fact apply to your system, if they do NOT, then they will not be installed.

If you have the 2007 "Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack " installed, then you will get these updates and you need to install them. These will update the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack to the 2010 version and will work with 2010 files and 2007 files. You are going to start getting them for 2013 when it is released.

Hi Dave.....

I do NOT have the Office Compatibility Pack installed. I checked for all the below listed files which indicate installation of the compatibility pack and none are on my computer. The only version of Office I have is 2007 and there are no previous versions on my computer. All of these 2010 updates were releases in September 2011 and are either security fixes or program updates for Office 2010 and one security update for Power Point Viewer 2010. Unbelievably, as I'm typing this, a notification for 5 more updates just came in, again all are security fixes for Office 2010 released in April 2012.

Why I'm suddenly receiving updates for Office 2010 is beyond me because I never received them before. The only possible explanation I can think of is the boot failure I had a few days ago that resulted in a Run-time error for MS Word (only Word and not the entire Office suite.) Even with that, how did that glitch result in what appears to be "catch-up" updates for Office 2010? If I had Office 2010, all those updates would have been installed when first released. I am totally baffled

If you were to visit the webpage on each of these updates, they may tell you what programs and versions that they apply to.
Some of the listed ones are to do with the Office spell checker and it will apply to ALL versions.

Also note that a lot of apps use parts of Office, so any update to them may have kicked this on.

Bottom line, if Microsoft Update says you need it, I would install it, unless you have some valid proof that it is NOT needed or will not work.

NOTE Word 2010 is version 14 and you are listing items for version 12 which I think is 2007, so those do apply.
