i was trying to install internet exploer 6 and it went through the whole process supriseingly quckily and then it gave me a message that said the following componets were not installed (nothing was installed) and now every time i try to reinstall it says there is a previous running instalation and that i should restart and finish that one, which i have tried with no success, the same thing happens. i tried installing the 5.51 upgrade just to see if it would get me past the problem but it did the same thing. i tried deleating my temp files and windows upgrade files but that didnt help im out of ideas hopefully somebody can help me?

    Hi RubberMonkey,

    Try this:

Shut down Internet Explorer and Outlook Express.

Now go to Start/Find, and type wininit.ini
When found, highlight the file and hit 'delete'

    Warning: don't touch Wininit.exe

Go to C:\Windows\Temp, and empty the folder completely.
Now go to C:\Program Files\Uninstall Information, and empty that one as well.

It may be a hidden folder, so make sure 'show all files' is checked (Folder Options\View).

Now shut down as many running programs as possible, especially your antivirus, and try installing IE again.

    Good luck,

that worked i got everything installed and i dont seem to be haveing any problems now, the uninstall folder was in the internet explorer forlder, just thoght i would tell you, i had forgetten about that folder or i would of erased that stuff befor. i think what gave me the problem in the first place was when it started intsalling i think my internet connection started doing crazy stuff again and it got screwed up, but it works now. thanks again tony.
