I've currently got 1gb of RAM, an Intel Pentium Dual CPU T2310 @ 1.46 GHz 1.47 GHz, and 80gb of hard drive of which 73gb are usable, and all on Windows Vista Home Basic Service Pack 1 32 bit. I want more RAM a bigger Hard Drive and any other upgrades that will make my computer perform better. I know that I will need to do 2 different things of RAM to get get max speeds out of the RAM. Also would like to extend battery life if you know anything about that. Yes I do want to update to Windows 7 when it comes out and if ya'll have any suggestions on which one of those I should get that would be appreciated too.And I would like to do all of this for under $200 to $300 (Windows 7 not included).

    Thanks in Advance,
    ptf

Max memory is 2GB for that laptop, 1GB per slot, you may have 2 x 512MB right now as they generally come with 2 sticks for dual channel mode: http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=Satellite L45-S7409
Two ways to check if its one or two sticks; open up the open and look OR use SIW: http://www.gtopala.com/siw-download.html
In SIW look under Hardware then Memory to see what it reports.

    Hard drives: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...odeValue=359:15133&PropertyCodeValue=359:7918
If you're looking for performance then get a 7200 RPM hard drive versus a 5400 or 4200 RPM drive with 16MB cache or 8MB cache.

Its a very budget laptop, the battery simply isn't the greatest either. Moving to 7 should help with battery life, also having a clean start up and few programs running will reduce system usage and extend the life as well.
