Solved: url.cpvfeed.com and casale media problems

Hi guys,

I have a problem that I could really use some help with, if you don't mind?

I, in the last three days, since somebody (nameless) decided to dl a screensaver on the torrent networks. :(

I am usually so concious of this sort of activity that up till now I have had maybe 2 attacks in the last 6 years, and I have tried thus far to eradicate it (this recent problem), but must now bow down to far greater knowledge than I possess!

Ok, what happens is that I start a firefox or IE7 page, and within maybe 10 seconds; I get pop-ups beginning with: url.cpvfeed.com in the title bar. IE7 only allows the occasional one to actually point to a site for some reason, with most coming up with a "page cannot be displayed" title.

Added to which, if I use google - which is my homepage - I get a smaller window with CasaleMedia search function also pop-up.

So far I have:

A) Used my adaware and AVG installs, to no avail.
B) Used Spybot in safe mode, which comes up as clean system
C) Found Casalemedia in the reg, and deleted it in safe mode.
D) Switched off system restore now and re-tried all the above.
E) Done an on-line pandascan which cashed, incidentally!
F) Run Hijack-this v1.99 from the desktop, as is in the faq.
G) Tried to use XsoftSpyXE which brings up confusing results.
H) After searching on the net, I used another prog (avenger) to try to kill core.exe (which I believe maybe part of the problem) in C:windows\system32\drivers. Avenger said that it could not execute the script on it, btw...

Guys, I post the following hijack this log for your much appreciated attention, although looking at it myself, I could not at first see references to my problem, but I am a newb to this, and would not see where the problem was. I woud really appreciate your help!!!! :)

1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop.
  • Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
  • Extract avenger.exe to your desktop

2. Copy the entire contents of the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

Files to delete:
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\core.cache.dsk
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\core.sys
Drivers to unload:
core

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.
  • Under "Script file to execute" choose "Input Script Manually".
  • Now click on the Magnifying Glass icon which will open a new window titled "View/edit script"
  • Paste the text copied to clipboard into this window by pressing (Ctrl+V).
  • Click Done
  • Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
  • Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:
  • It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
  • On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
  • After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger's actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
  • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
5. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply along with a fresh hijackthis log.

Great!!

You can remove all of the tools I requested you to load and their associated files and folders.

SUPERAntiSpyware is a trial version, you can remove that when the trial period has expired.

It's a good idea to Flush your System Restore after removing malware:

  • On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
  • Click Properties.
  • Click the System Restore tab.
  • Check Turn off System Restore.
  • Click Apply, and then click OK.
  • Restart the computer.

To create a new restore point:
  • Start go to All Programs
  • Accessories, System Tools and select System Restore.
  • In the System Restore wizard, select "Create a restore point" and follow the instructions provided.

Here are some additional links for you to check out.
