Iupgrade my laptop to Windows 2000 Professional from Windows 98. Now my Autorun doesn't work when I put a CD in the drive. Can anyone tell me how to turn Autorun back on?

    Requires using the registry editor.

    Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom

Doubleclick the autorun value and set it to 1.

I checked my registry and the autorun is set to 1. Do you have any further suggestions?

    Thanks

You should also check the following registry key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

The value of NoDriveTypeAutoRun should read 0x00000095. Any other value will disable the autorun ability or it will behave erratically.

Thanks, changing the Registry info did it.

Wow. Thanks, Elsinaj! I have Windows 2000 and that worked for me also. I downloaded Tweakui for Win2000 as mentioned above but couldn't find any place to turn it on or off in Tweakui, even though they mention it in the help (but not where you're supposed to do this. Arghhh.) The help says: Check the "Play data CDs automatically" box to run the program on a data CD when it is inserted, provided the CD was designed for Windows auto-play.

Well anyways, thanks again and happy computing!
