    Verizon In-Home Agent has appeared on my screen at least six or seven times in the last few weeks. I don't know what it is and so I have clicked Cancel but it keeps coming back. Last night it took over my screen for more than two hours...and probably more... since I went to bed at that point. Here's what happened:

    Looking at the screen, at the top it showed Verizon In-Home Agent twice...at the same time...next to each other, one with a gray background and, next to it, one with a white background.

    On the main screen it showed a series of small, moving green rectangles heading to the right over and over..

    At the top was this link:

    file:///C:/Program Files/Verizon/OCB/f616c9a7-4e4f-43f8-8d77-d52c775529dz/Start.htm

    What is it, what is it doing, and do I need it? I do use Verizon for e-mail. If I don't need it, how do I get rid of this screen hogger? If I need it , how do I resolve this ?

    Thanks in advance.

    That is just a program to provide you with tech support for common questions.
    It is not required. And you can remove it easily.

    Just go to Control Panel - add/remove programs and uninstall it.!

    What are you doing at that particular moment to trigger that pop-up?

    ===================================================================

    Can you post a screenshot of it?

    To take a screenshot,

    1- Hit the Printscreen key on your keyboard. This will copy your entire screen to the clipboard. Hitting ALT + Printscreen will only copy the active window.

    2- Open Paint.

    3- Select Edit.

    4- Click on Paste.

    5- Select File.

    6- Click on Save As...

    7- Save your screenshot as a JPEG file.

    8- Attach the screenshot to your next post.

    How to Attach a File on TSG

    ===================================================================

    1- Please click HERE to download HijackThis.
    2- Run the program.
    3- Click on the Main Menu button if not already there.
    4- Select Do a system scan and save a logfile.
    5- Copy and paste the scan log from Notepad into your next reply.
    6- Do not "Fix" anything unless advised to do so.

    For Windows 7 and Vista:

    If Windows is denying access to the Hosts file, be sure to run HijackThis as Administrator or disable the UAC first.

    ===================================================================

    1- Run HijackThis again.
    2- Click on Open The Misc Tools section from the Main Menu.
    3- Click on Open Uninstall Manager.
    4- Click on Save list...
    5- Save the text file to the desktop.
    6- Copy and paste the log from Notepad into your next reply.

    I checked out Control Panel/Add Remove and the Verizon program was not there.

    When I checked out Control Panel, nothing about Verizon was there.

    What I was doing when this happened again last night was just sitting in my chair watching TV.

    If it comes up again I will try to get a screen shot but since the center of the screen is that row of moving green rectangles, I don't know if it will copy. I copied your instructions.

    As for HiJack This... This is what I found.

    If you don't need the three following applications, uninstall them:

    Verizon Download Manager

    Verizon Help and Support Tool

    Verizon Toolbar

    I don't know if I need any or all three; that's a big part of my problem. However, when I went to Add/Remove I clicked on Verizon Help and Support and then clicked on Change, it read,"This will uninstall Verizon In-Home Agent." I stopped.

    So...back to my first comment here. I don't know if I need it because I don't know what it does.

    I can remember clicking on Remove from another program some time ago, and it told me that if I uninstalled this one, it would uninstall all of the ones with the same leader name. It might have been HP. So I hesitate , thinking that all my Verizon programs will be removed and I will have messed up my Verizon e-mail and maybe more.

    What can you tell me? Thanks.

    In my opinion, those are simply non-essential utilities provided by Verizon.

    If I uninstall them, can I get them back easily? How about if I just try uninstalling Verizon Help and Support, that includes the Verizon In-Home Agent? That's the one that is appearing and the one that I want to stop.

    Yes, I would start with the Verizon Help and Support Tool.

    OK...I did uninstall the Verizon Help and Support Tool. Now, I guess all I can do is wait and see if it shows up again. You've been very helpful. Is there a way I can get back to you on this issue if I continue to have a problem, so that I don't have to start all over again?
