I recently was infected with the Spysheriff spyware and attemted to take the necessary steps to remove it following many threads on this forum. My computer seems to run pretty good now, except within the last few days, my Norton Antivirus has been catching a lot of viruses. The virus it is catching is the Hacktool.Rootkit using such filenames as tool4.exe, A0000704.sys, A0000812.dll, and A0000855.exe. Norton has since deleted these files, but now I'm wondering if my computer is still infected somehow. I've downloaded Hijackthis and my log is listed below. Any help would be appreciated very much.

    Welcome to TSG :)

Please download Rootkit Revealer (link is at the very bottom of the page)
    • Unzip it to your desktop.
    • Open the rootkitrevealer folder and double-click rootkitrevealer.exe
    • Click the Scan button (bottom right)
    • It may take a while to scan (don't do anything while it's running)
    • When it's done, go up to File > Save. Choose to save it to your desktop.
    • Open rootkitrevealer.txt on your desktop and copy the entire contents and paste them here

Click here to download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite:
    http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

    · Install Ewido.
    · During the installation, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
    · Launch ewido.
    · It will prompt you to update click the OK button and it will go to the main screen.
    · On the left side of the main screen click update.
    · Click on Start and let it update.
    · DO NOT run a scan yet.

Restart your computer into Safe Mode now.
(Start tapping the F8 key at Startup, before the Windows logo screen).
Perform the following steps in Safe Mode:

    * Run Ewido:
    Click on scanner
Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK.
When the scan is finished, look at the bottom of the screen and click the Save report button.
Save the report to your desktop.

    Reboot.

Post a new Hijack This log and the results of the Ewido scan.

Log looks fine. I just want to check one more thing.

Run Kaspersky online virus scan here: http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

When the scan is finished, it usually does not give you any option to clean them.
Save the results from the scan and post them here.

Things seem to be running pretty good so far. No new viruses have popped up with my Norton program. However, what do I do about the viruses that the Kaspersky online scanner found. I did a search on my hard drive for those files, but I couldn't find them.

On another note, based on my Hijackthis report, should I be concerned about these 3 entries:

    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {85d1f590-48f4-11d9-9669-0800200c9a66} - %windir%\bdoscandel.exe (file missing)

    and

    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Uninstall BitDefender Online Scanner v8 - {85d1f590-48f4-11d9-9669-0800200c9a66} - %windir%\bdoscandel.exe (file missing)

    and

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: WRNotifier - WRLogonNTF.dll (file missing)

    Thank You

    Those entries are harmless.

If you no longer use BitDefender, you can fix these:

    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {85d1f590-48f4-11d9-9669-0800200c9a66} - %windir%\bdoscandel.exe (file missing)

    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Uninstall BitDefender Online Scanner v8 - {85d1f590-48f4-11d9-9669-0800200c9a66} - %windir%\bdoscandel.exe (file missing)

The 020 is part of WebRoot SpySweeper. Do you still use that?

I do not use Webroot Spysweeper anymore. I went ahead and erased those entries. Everything appears to be running smooth so far. Here is the latest report from Hijackthis. Does everything look good to you?

    Everything looks good (y)

    Now turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
    Click Properties.
    Click the System Restore tab.
    Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn System Restore back on and create a restore point.

    To create a restore point:

Single-click Start and point to All Programs.
Mouse over Accessories, then System Tools, and select System Restore.
In the System Restore wizard, select the box next the text labeled "Create a restore point" and click the Next button.
Type a description for your new restore point. Something like "After trojan/spyware cleanup". Click Create and you're done.

You can mark your thread "Solved" from the Thread Tools drop down menu.
