I have an HP laptop with Windows Vista. I have backups scheduled once per month. Yesterday the wizard came up for me to initiate the backup but I was doing something important and didn't want to bother, so I closed the backup. Later, (at 7 p.m.) I opened Backup & Recovery and started a backup. I clicked "use blank disc" and proceeded to backup. Except for 6 hours while I slept (2 am to 8 am), I been changing disks (CDs) constantly. I'm now on disk #18 (which includes 2 DVDs because I got tired of the frequent changes). I tis now 6:50 pm -- almost 24 hours since the backup is going. Is this normal or might something be wrong? Everything working o.k. it just seems like an unusual amount of time for a backup.

I guess I'd get an external drive and automate the process. You have for patience than I'd have.

It sounds like a full backup. Is that what you usually do? What backup program do you use?

Yeah sounds like full backup instead of incremental ( newest only).

I use the HP Backup & Recovery that came with Windows Vista Home Premium. I think when the HP Wizzard does the scheduled backup, it does only the changes to the file but since I did the manual backup, I guess it's doing the entire disk. I do have over 400 pictures & videos -- most of which are videos -- and I recently learnt how to tag my photos, so I had fun tagging all of them. This might be why it's taking so long. I just was getting concerned that something is wrong and perhaps, it is just repeating itself and not really doing anything.
Anyway, 16 CDs and 5 DVDs later, it seems like it is coming to an end -- at least that's what the Green progress bar is showing!

Thanks for replying so soon. This is my first time using this (or any) forum.

Do yourself a big favor and get an external drive.

Hello Everyone: My near panic was unnecessary. It took 24 hours but the backup did complete o.k. I've learnt my lesson (AGAIN!). I'll stick to the Wizzard in future, except for the recommended 6-month full PC backup. At least now I'll know that I should book a vacation day off work when it's time to do it again! (ha ha)
