I downloaded Visual Studio and burned them to two CD's.
    But ... the installation fails.
It says that H:\_351_RTL_x86_enu_HTML_Designer.cab file is not found but it is there in setup directory
    !!!
Just before that error i get another error unabe to write d.exe to the installation directory.
I got this from event viewer.

The error log shows multiple errors trying to write to folders in D:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8. Check that the account you are logged on to has write permission for the D: drive.

sorry for not replying to this thread for a long time!!
Anyway solved the problem it seems that D:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\VC\bin\cl.exe had been corrupted on my hd . so when the installation tried to access it it just found a bad sector and gave an error.so i just ran chkdsk /F
