and when I click on place icon on desktop I have the message saying the volume control program has not been installed. I've tried to find the file sndvol32.exe but it doesn't seem to be nowhere. I don't possess any restore disk.

    Thanks for help

Please download SystemLook from one of the links below and save it to your Desktop.
    Download Mirror #1
    Download Mirror #2
    • Double-click SystemLook.exe to run it.
    • Copy the content of the following code box into the main text field:
      Code:
      :filefind
      SndVol32.*

    • Click the Look button to start the scan.
    • When finished, a notepad window will open with the results of the scan. Please post this log in your next reply.
Note: The log can also be found on your Desktop entitled SystemLook.txt

What is the operating system? It looks like W2K or possibly an upgrade from W2K to XP?

OK. Please navigate to this folder (you will have to unhide files/folders to be able to see the dllcache folder). Let me know if you need instructions on how to do that.

    C:\WINNT\system32\dllcache

Open the dllcache folder and right-click on this file:

    sndvol32.exe

    Then select "copy".

    Now navigage to this folder:

    C:\WINNT\system32

Open the system32 folder and right-click the mouse and select "paste". This should drop a copy of the file in this location.

Now reboot your machine and see if the volume icon appears.
