Here is a question for you mechanics.

I have this coupling. Actually it is a two piece Wood's type Sure-Grip coupling with a two piece toothed rubber insert. It took some doing, but the insert is out, but now I need to get one half of the coupling to move farther onto the shaft in order to get the new insert into it. It is presently 3 inches from the face of one coupling to the other. I need at least 4 inches to wedge the inserts into the couplings. This coupling is a #12 Wood's Sure Grip. I have heated the shaft of one end and let it cool to see if the coupling would break it's grip n the 2 7/16" diameter shaft. No Luck. I heated the coupling with an acetylene heating torch long enough to expand the coupling, but not the shaft. Move a 1/16" At this rate, it would take me most of the day to get the coupling back far enough to get the inserts into the couplings.

Here is the kicker...............No room to move the other coupling back at all and there is no room for pullers as the shaft with the couplings attached is nearly 12 foot long and goes through the machine at both ends.

I am going to try floor jacks between the coupling halfs, the heating torch and two extra sets of hands.

Any other ideas are more than welcome.
