    Can you help me please.

i downloaded some .wav files which i wanted to customise my pc sounds with ie, controlpanel > sounds.

I run win 2000 pro and windows media player.
When the files are downloaded i can play them with windows media player and i can save them into a folder of my choice.

However they are saved as windows media player files and when i go to control panel > sounds to add the new sound to my e.mail notification option it wont recognize the file format?

I dont know how to solve this so can anyone help me out here?

    thx...rob

    Hiya

As I'm on 2000 also, can you give me the link on where you downloaded the files from so that I could have a go?

Also, if you rightclick on them and choose Properties, what is the extension?

    Regards

    eddie

    Okay

    It works for me.

This is how I did it. I clicked on the link. Mine was Cyberdyne Systems Terminator online

This brought up Windows Media Player which downloaded and played the .wav

I stopped the player, then clicked File | Save As

In the name box was itsname.wav

I saved this in My Documents. Then, into Control Panel | Sounds. Clicked on one that I wanted to change, pressed Browse, and went to My Documents. There was only one .wav file in there, so I knew I had the right one. Clicked it, and pressed OK.

In Sounds it came up in the Name, so I clicked the Play button, and it played.

Was this the same route you tried?

    Okay

What version of Media Player have you got?

Have you tried rightclicking on a link and choosing Save Target As and saving that way?

Well eddie i seem to have 2 versions.
The old version is 6.4.9.1117 this has a save as option.

The newer version is 7.01.00.3055 and does not have the save as option?
This version seems to take control when i download or try to play anything.

what you reckon shall i delete the newer version?

    thx...rob

I assume you mean uninstall :p

Well, I don't like the new version. Prefer good old 6.4. Does the Save As target work anyway? You'll be just downloading the file not playing it.
