That indicates the CF card is corrupt (or the file is corrupt) usually.

The actual file name has become corrupt hence the strange characters.

Pretty important that I access what is or was on card. Work in law enforcement and what's on disc may be quite important. Any way to access it??

Don't use the card, and get it to a data recovery specialist.

Or if you don't have the money ask someone here for methods on data recovery, heck, still may not be damaged something just might be up.

Tried PC Inspector as suggested by Acraftylady and was able to recover photo's!! Thanks for the help. It is free d-l and easy to use. Would you be able to check out the hardrive of another computer for deleted photos as well? Can it be done by connecting other computer with USB? Thanks again Acraftylady!!

There is PC Inspector file recovery I think it's also free and will recovery data from the hard drive. Usually though as soon as the file is deleted you should stop using the hard drive because your chances of recovering are better. Also most programs reccomend to recover to a separate drive. Couldn't hurt to give it a try since the other PC inspector worked for you.
