I have this laptop NEC Lavie LL750/B and it's made in japan it has 44pins + a few jumper pins(not 100% sure). I ordered the SAMSUNG HM160HC 160GB 2.5" IDE PATA HARD DRIVE HDD and unfortunately it doesn't fit inside my laptop... It has the same pins but the plastic covering on each side the side pin is in the way and the hdd can't go all the way in.
Why do they have the same pins but won't let me fit? Is it so that I can only buy Hard drive from Lavie?
Should I return the Hard drive?

I understand your frustration, would it not be great if everything was standardised ?!! Ah well ..at last they are standardising phone chargers at least !!

And yes the best option is to get the hdd from the maker of the computer.
