    Greetings

    I'm running Win 7 64 bit.
    Chrome and Firefox browsers only.

Today I noticed in my control panel > programs and features: a program called 'Bonjour' had been installed on jan. 10 2015.

I did a google search and saw it was bundled with some programs, apps and/or plugins. None of which I have ever used, let alone installed. I am trying to figure out where it might have come from or what program may have installed it without my permission.

I do have an android tablet that connects wirelessly to my router, but it has never been connected directly to my computer, nor did I install any software on my computer related to my tablet.

I've read that it is used for discovery of available devices on your network but I am suspicious since the official apple website lists the programs that use it or install it, and I have none of the them installed, nor have I ever used any of them.

I have read that removing can cause you problems, so before I block, disable or ultimately uninstall it, I'm curious if there is a way of figuring out what did install it.

    Here's what I do know:

    -------------------------------------

I am the sole user of this computer. Its my home computer, I have admin permissions.

I have my computer to notify me when updates are available, nothing updates on it's own as far I know (and have set)

I haven't installed any new programs this year. (2015)

I did not install Bonjour, yet it appears to have full access/permissions.

I do not use itunes or safari. I never have, nor has any apple product (ipod/itunes etc) ever been installed or connected to my computer.

I have never used internet explorer, so I have never installed any IE plugins that are related.

I do not have Adobe creative suite installed, and never have.

I do not have a printer at all. Never have.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------

Any input, suggestion or help of discoverying what installed it would be greatly appreciated.

Please download MiniToolBox to your desktop and run it.

    Select List Installed Programs only.

    Click Go.

A list of your installed programs will open into Notepad. Copy/paste the content into your next reply.

I believe Bonjour came with your Adobe Photoshop CS4:

I noticed that in the minitoolbox list and am confused, I've never used CS4 and it didn't come with the computer as I built it. CS4 is not listed in the control panel > programs and features, nor are there any files within the Adobe folders in either C: Programs > Adobe or Programs (x86) > Adobe.

I did a search of my computer and cannot find one reference or folder for CS4.

    Thanks again for the reply.

    Odd!

Any other programs in the list that shouldn't be there?

    Anyone else using your computer?

There are some things I can't find in the 'program features' section, but I suspect they are bundled within one title. The CCC utility help languages for example. Other than that, everything seems legit and for the most part I recognize everything.

I live by myself so no one really is using this computer. My girlfriend uses her laptop when she's here, and I did ask if she installed CS4 and later removed it at some point, but she apparently has the newest version on her laptop.

For the record, nothing strange is occurring with the bonjour program, I blocked it in my firewall to see if it was doing anything like trying to talk to anything and haven't seen anything recorded. It isn't using up resources or memory either. I was just confused where it had come from, and since getting tablet for xmas I haven't used this machine in well over a month.

Press the Windows key + R to open a Run box.

    Type regedit

    Press Enter.

    Go to:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

In the subkeys under Uninstall, any sign of Adobe Photoshop?

Nothing from photoshop appears within the registry entry you mentioned, but I did find photoshop.exe within:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\AppCompatFlags\PenService

For clarity, I did go direct to the path you referenced, but then did a search of the registry, no other instances of photoshop seem to show up.

Looking at your programs, I can't see anything else that would require or install Bonjour.

I did a deep scan with ESET early today and turned up nothing suspect. So, I think I'm going do a thorough inspection of my programs and system and see if I can't find something to explain it.

Since the program doesn't appear to be doing anything suspicious except existing on my machine suddenly, I'll freeze it and see what, if anything is affected.

I'm off to work in the next hour so I'll leave this open for now, but I'll do some inspection tomorrow. If I find the solution I'll return and reply with what I found or if nothing seems broken due to the process being stopped, I'll simply uninstall it. Either way I'll return by tomorrow evening and mark solved.

Thanks for your assistance and time. Very much appreciated. Have a great weekend.

Bonjour was probably installed with µTorrent. Are you dual-booting Linux and need a torrent client?

Never seen Bonjour with µTorrent, but I guess it's possible.
