Take a look at the attached jpeg.
I installed a german version of Davideo on my computer, played around with it ,didn't like it so obviously de installed it,i live in Germany thats why its in german, and now in my paint shop pro a few things are in German and its bugging me as to why.
the things are Save as , save copy as and open .
they have become speichern unter, kopie speichern unter and offnen respectively.I speak german so its not a problem to understand its just that if my win 98 is in english i want it ALL to be in English.
Ive run sfc, manually cleaned the registry, used reghealer, checked for any files left over for the program that i de installed and i've also ckecked paint shop pro's registry entries to see if i can change the entries back to English.
the funny thing is its only psp thats been affected.
Am i right in thinking thats its only a matter of changing an entry in the registry and i've just missed it or is it something bigger ?
hey if no one knows ,never mind i can live with it i just want it back in English as thats how its supposed to be,its annoying me.

    Thx in advance ,
    Chunter

There is a file called comdlg32.dll which programs use to display certain common windows like File Save and Open. It sounds like your German program installed a new version of this file. You need to extract the old version from your Windows CD. I can't guarantee this is what's wrong, but it's worth a try.

This article explains how to do extract the file from CD:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q137273

You can also try using TweakUI, which has a Repair tab, and a drop-down box that has a Repair System Files option. If you don't have TweakUI, you can get it here:

    http://www.microsoft.com/ntworkstation/downloads/powertoys/networking/nttweakui.asp

OR, WIndows98 has a System File Checker which should find and fix the problem (I don't remember the exact menu options to find it)

hmmm, just reread your post and saw where you already ran SFC. I still think the problem is probably comdlg32 related; maybe one of the other fixes will work...

Why not uninstall and reinstall PSP?

    It might work.

    Good luck,

I have had the same problem here in Mexico with Spanish versions of software, and the only way I've been able to correct it is to re-install the affected programs :( In English, of course.

That's what I thought as well, but Chunter just said he's already done that, and apparently it didn't change anything.

    Puzzling...

I still say it's probable that one of your dll or possibly ocx files have been replaced. A program like PSP might use the default file from Windows, and not replace it on reinstall.

    comdlg32.dll
    comdlg32.ocx
    comctl32.dll
    comctl32.ocx
    commdlg.dll
    commctrl.dll

are all fairly likely candidates. You might try emailing/phoning tech support for Davideo (or PSP) if you have that option, and ask them what file got replaced.

If it's not something along these lines, I would be greatly surprised, unless there's some new virus or trojan that "Germans up" your computer.

Reinstalling Windows on top of your existing installation might also fix your problem, but if it's really not bothering you that much....

    Duh, failed reading 1.01 this a.m. :(

Maybe it's going to take a windows re-install?

Ok i've re installed windows over the top of itself(that should replace the files ??) and the problem is still there in PsP .
so what i've done is monitored the installations of PsP 7.4 and DaviDeo and saved them to text, literally just done them,i'm gonna upload them here so that you all can see what they've installed and what might be overwriting itself.
I'm doing exactly the same after i've finished typing this, but more heads the merrier...if after all this we can't suss it out them TS for me i'll just live with the German words.
    here's the first text file
