Why does just copy and pasting the contents of the CD/DVD not work? This is just a general question. What is it about ripping that is different for just copy and pasting?
Most CD's/DVD's can be simply copied and pasted (of course, not directly to another CD because they need to be burned, but at least to a burner program or the file window if using the OS's own burning tools). Bootable ones can't because you need to transfer the boot sector. Music ones often can't because the tracks may not even be visible on the CD, and music CD's have a different file system that "normal" ones.
But you can't "rip" any CD unless it has music on it, anyway.
Maybe if you explained a bit more about what you are doing, what type of CD, and why, we could help.
