Ok--here it is-windows 98, IE 6.0, cable modem, microsoft virtual machine
I play games on a online game site, pogo.com. when i try to play spades the room with the tables to play on comes up fine, i select my room options and hit PLAY---that is when the horrid blue screen comes up, here is the error message word for word(i wrote it down) :D

An Exception had occurred at 28:00000009 in VXD. This was called from 0028:C001COD4 in VXD NDIS(01)+00004620. It may be possible to continue normally. Hit any key to continue.
I checked microsofts knowledge log for error messages, none of them seem to fit mine----as far as i can tell, it looks like" NDIS" is a virtual device driver, on this game site the majority of their games need JAVA to be installed for thr games to run properly, well for my system IE 6.0, they recommended Mircosoft's Virtual Machine, which works fine, but have u ever come accross this message? And any insight u may have would be greatly appreciated!!!
If u need more info on my system please let me know!

    Hiya and welcome

I've moved you to Games for more response :)

You may want to have a look at this:

    http://forums.techguy.org/t116980

    Also, see if this helps.

Control panel | Internet Options. Security tab. Custom Settings. make sure the drop down menu is on Medium, Reset, Yes. If its already on Medium, reset anyway.

    Regards

hi Eddie---thanks for the info, i reset my securities to medium, it was already on medium, but ill see what happens, and i also read the thread from 2003-2004 on POGO, they are still having problems with their servers as of now-lol, the games load for me, mainly the newest ones, the older games like spades and checkers give me the problems, i emailed them as well and im still waiting on a response to see if they could help(i doubt this)i have become a ritualistic emptier of my cookies and temp internet files EVERY DAY!! i also scan my computer with my nortan anti virus and i use ad-aware, plus scandisk and i defrag once a week. so, ive been contemplating getting windows XP, they seem to have problems with that as well, and whats even funnier, i saw the post on the NIC card Linksys--i have that, and once i got java VM, i had no problems, BUT i have a partial download of the newer java, that i cant uninstall because its missing a DLL file? so--i might get desperate enough and uninstall my windows and re install them. ill wait and see if the error comes back with a few more trys of some things--lol--i can only smile and laugh at this, cause life goes on with or without pogo!!! thanks agin, i will keep u updated on my progress!!

As you have a partial install of Java, have you tried installing over the top of the other one? Does it say which dll is missing?

As you can view the newer games, and not the older ones, it may be their site. I can't see what you can/can't, as I'm not a member there.

XP is mentioned here as not working either:

    http://www.newbie.org/help/messages/8267.html

What you may want to check, is in Internet Option, Advanced tab. Look for Microsoft VM.

You may have JIT ticked, so remember that setting, or whatever else you have ticked. Untick the boxes, apply and if needed, restart.

Then see if that helps. If not, retick the boxes that were initially ticked.

Hi eddie--the problem has worsened!!!! i cant get into any games now, i emailed java so that they may help me figure out how to get that partial version off off my comp. I thought of installing over that file as well, but alas---no such luck, it keeps giving me the error 1723, which is a java error message, so now with no java, the games wont run on pogo. I am so frustrated, i need to get that off of the computer so that i cant get it reinstalled--arghhhhhhhhh----i hope they email me back soon----gosh--im probably gonna have to wipe my hardrive out to get that off!!! then go thru the extensive process of re-installing everything from the beginning!!!
thanks for the reply--unless u have any ideas how i can wipe java completely out?

This is what I've found at Sun:

    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=14&threadID=488766

The above is for an older version of Java, which I'm assuming its Sun's Java you have installed. However, this is a most recent post:

    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=585265&tstart=105

But not really sure which folder she means, but I'll post a reply to it, so that's why I've linked you to it here. Also, I don't have JavaSoft in my Registry, but if you could look, we may be able to work on this.

Go to Start | Run, and type REGEDIT

    Navigate to this folder:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment\CurrentVersion

and when you click on CurrentVersion, what is showing on the right? Don't change anything, just exit by pressing the X as nomal

hi eddie----this is gonna sound weird--but i got the darn thing up and running before i read ur latest post, i went into my recycle bin and found that i had a java file in there, i think my husband was trying to help me out by manually removing it, but i recovered it AND-------i went onto pogo site and i tried all of my games and even the ones i had problems with are all working perfect? go figure? i did overwrite the java 5.1 this morning as u had suggested, so maybe that combined with recovering the java file from my bin, fixed it? im just happy im not getting error messages anymore!!!!!
i am saving this thread just in case i find myself having problems with the java again----thanks for all of ur help---u have been wonderful, as i see that ur in england, dont they say "cheers"? well CHEERS !!! u are simply brilliant!

Great, glad to hear its all working again :)

If you want, you can mark this thread Solved. Just click on Thread Tools at the top, and select it from the list ;)

They do say Cheers. In fact, we have many uses for the word. It can mean Thanks when you get a lift, or something, When you buy a round of beer or anything in a pub, and you all go Cheers (meaning all the best, or something similar). :D
