Recently I had resolved my problem with not being able to open up attachments under word pad. I was told to download word vierwer 97/2000 @ microsoft...come to find out everytime I use word pad 2000 format it saves it as a word viewer 97 without the edit features or "SAVE AS" feature.
I can click and drag whole sentences and paragraphs while I'm typing a document but when I close it its right back under the viewer 97 icon...no editing allowed.
Help me?

Right click/ select properties and make sure it isn't saved as "Read Only".

I right clicked it but it was already check marked archive but when I cleared the box to reassure it being marked archive a very faint outline surrounded the "read only" box but no check mark.
Hmmmm....and the mystery continues.....

Hiya

I have the viewer also, along with Powerpoint and Excel.

You can't edit in any of them, as they're only for viewing. Otherwise, people would download the free versions, instead of buying the full Word, or Office package.

The viewer does not allow users to edit files. However, it allows them to copy information from a document to other applications.

I've had word pad 2000 for 3 years...I've opted to save in "Desktop" my typed document, that I typed with my option to fill in the "name file" and below that it read "Windows Word 6.0"
I navigated it to where I could open it later to rearrange by left click a sentence, paragraph..etc., and outline it in blue to move anywhere in that document.
Now, ever since I downloaded word viewer 97/2000, three days ago, I go into Word pad and have all those forementioned features to move anything as I please as before but now the difference is when I opt to save my document that I typed.....under word pad 2000 window..to access later....it sends it to desktop like the navigation above but under the Word Viewer 97 icon "where editing is not allowed".
How can that be I mean it was working for me before three days ago...when I would close a new typed document, typed by me in Word Pad...it would show up on my desktop with a "WORD PAD" icon not a word viewer 97 icon......UGH
I have Windows Office 2000 with Word Perfect 9. Just because I had trouble opening an email paperclipped attachment and was told to download word viewer 97 to open it .....I'm going to loose Word Pad "Save As" and its gold mine features.
I hope this clears it better

Oh happy days....I did it...thanks to the Pyrite in "Chat"
All I had to do you guys....WAS....I promised I wasn't going to gloat....:p ..... after using word pad and navigating it to desk top where it lost its "Word Pad" gold mine features by changing to word Viewr 97 was to simply highlight the ~1.DOC. Hold the Shift key down at the same time right click it . Left click "Open With" and scroll down to the program you want to open it with....Ta ran.
There was Note Pad 2000...left click or highlight it which ever works to turn the dern thing blue, click below "always open it with" to show a check mark then left click "OK".
Please...no autographs....money will do....
I'd like to take this time to thank the ACADEMY.
