I'm going back to Win98 (no, it isn't better, just more economical in this case.) Java is telling me that I need at least IE 5.0 to install it. Can I upgrade to 6.0 in Win98SE, or would 5.0 be a better idea? I've seen a couple of forum posts from people reporting problems with IE upgrades in Win98. Any help would be appreciated.

May not be more econimical when you can't run Windows Update anymore because MS stops support for it.

We ran IE 6 on all our Windows 98 desktops at my last job. I was glad when we finally got rid or Windows 98. Pushing down policies to them was a nightmare.

IE6 SP1 runs fine on my old 98 comp (although I don't use it and have the Internet Zone tightly locked down).

I can understand the security issue, but this computer is expendable (at least the data on it will be). I don't use IE, either, I'm a Firefox man, but there are always those rare occasions. At least I now know it can be done. Thanks for the input, Squashman and TOGG. I will mark this solved.
