I have a problem concerning the startup of Windows 7. Firstly, it takes about 30 minutes to load to a stage I can try and select a program to use. Also, I find it very difficult to access windows explorer to check things like My Computer and the Control Panel for instance.

One thing I have noticed is that ESET NOD32 antivirus displays a message stating that "ESET NOD32 cannot communicate with kernel" or something similar. It loads up but does not work and terminates itself after a while.

I think this might have something to do with the problem because I understand that the kernel communicates everything from any program to the hardware of the computer such as the CPU and memory.

This probably is not enough information on the problem, but I am finding it very difficult to use the computer because it literally might take an hour or two to find something out, or it might not let you do that at all.

Any help would be much appreciated and if any more information is required I will try my best to find out.

The ESET error message points to your .NET framework 1.1 service packs not installed. So you would need to run Windows updates on your machine to resolve the above issue.

However, more importantly, go ahead and remove all USB devices attached to the system. I think you have a bad device driver loading up when Windows boots. If you go to Start>Run>Msconfig you can then click on the startup tab which will allow you to deselect programs or items that you do not need starting up hence slowing the Windows boot. Once you have done that, your system should be running faster and you could go ahead and remove programs that you do not need. Proceed to downloading and installing Windows Updates and the latest device drivers. The Windows Updates should take care of the ESET error message.

Should you run into any trouble, do not hesitate to let me know.

Sorry about the late reply. I will try your suggestions and get back to you. Just to let you know, I think I tried installing an update which was recommended from the eset website which was I think the same as the one you mentioned. It did not work but i will try your suggestions and try again.

No luck I'm afraid. I updated windows, removed most of the the startup programs and uninstalled a bunch as well. It is still taking an age to load up and still very difficult to use. Anything else I can try?

Did you remove the USB devices attached to your computer?
Did you go to START>CONTROL PANEL>Device Manager and see that all devices are working properly?

Please click HERE to download and install HijackThis.

Run it and select Do a system scan and save a logfile from the Main Menu.

The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next post.

    IMPORTANT: Do not fix anything

Did you purposely uncheck ESET from your Startup programs?

    Hey Phantom,
Does HijackThis needs to be run as administrator ? The 'Running Processes' in the post above only shows 2 programs. Is that normal?

Unfortunately, with Vista or Windows 7, HijackThis doesn't show processes from all users, like XP does.

So do you have any ideas about why the computer has taken a nose dive in loading times?

Does your computer take as long to boot up in Safe Mode?
