I have a gateway desktop with Windows Vista installed. A few months back upon returning to work one morning about 50 IE windows were cascaded on my desktop. Since then my Windows icons ie Word, Excel, security center... will not open. My Download box asks me if I want to run or save. I click run and nothing happens. Microsoft word files will open, but not the basic Microsoft word icon or any "Windows" icons. Oh and the 30+ Internet explorer windows still pop up every day.

    PLEASE HELP!

Have you been using this computer for the past few months with this problem?

To help us help you, please use the TSG System Info tool to let Tech's know the specs of your computer: http://static.techguy.org/download/SysInfo.exe Copy and paste the results here in your thread. You can use the TSG Info to fill in your computer information in your user profile as well.

Also, if its a brand name system like an Acer,Dell or HP, please post the exact model of the system.

Your link will not "run" on my computer. The downloads box comes up and asks if i want to run or save and then nothing happens when I click run. I right-clicked on "computer" and this is what popped up in the downloads box "the programs publisher couldnt be verified"

    Download Security Check by screen317
    http://screen317.spywareinfoforum.org/
    Save it to your Desktop.

Right click and select "Run as Administrator"
A command Prompt window will open.
Let it scan the Pc - press any key when asked.
It should now open in Notepad - and will save a log called checkup.txt.
Post the result of the scan here.
    -------
Click Start - in the search box.
    Type
    msconfig

Click on the Start Up Tab.
Write down carefully what is listed and post the list here.
    Or post a screenshot

I tried it and when I right-clicked "run as administrator" was not an option. I clicked "run" in the downloads box and it said "This program's publisher could not be verified"
