I tried to install a game from steam and i get an error saying: windows installer service could not be accessed, contact support personnel to verify that the windows installer service is properly registered. I tried restarting the service and it still didn't work. And i can't even uninstall anything or install anything now.

    here is my system info:

Is the service set to manual?

Do you get any error message when you try to start it?

(The fix proposed in post #2 will not work.)

    Something a bit weird

    Try this.....click Start (bottom left)>>All Programs>>Accessories>.Command Prompt

At the prompt type sfc /scannow Please note that there is a single space between sfc and /scannow.

This is just a test to see the integrity of the system files.....if you do have the Vista disk put it in the CD drive first
