I haven't used my Windows Media Player for a few weeks but today when I tried to play some music I got this error: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly."
Is there some explanation for this or, better still, a solution?

Your sound device may require an updated driver.

To use a different sound device:
On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Devices tab.
Double-click Speakers, and in Audio device to use, click a different device.

Thanks for the quick reply and the advice. Meanwhile I appeared to have solved the problem, more by accident. I decided to uninstall and then re-install Windows Media Player. It offered to "roll back" which I accepted and now I have sound. I have no idea how that has worked, but it has!! Crazy things, computers. Thanks again.
