Running Win98se. When I request machine to shut down it stops at the "windows is shutting down" screen. This seems to have started recently(3weeks). Any suggestions as to how to get it to complete the process?

No new hardware. Been downloading a few odds and ends like hijack this, belarc, pc wizard, adaware, and AVG. Thats all of the ones I can think of.

Tried using the "shutdown troubleshooting wizard" recommended on step 2 of the above link. Seems to stop halfway through the wizard and stalls. Guess that's another thing I'll have to figure out later. Don't think one has to do with the other, but I guess you folks would know better.

You might also try searching the MS Knowledge Base articles. There are a lot of other fixes available. This was just one that I knew about.

vealj,

Glad that solved the problem for you. It doesn't always work but does enough that usually it is the first thing I try. There are others from MS as well.
