Got a problem that just started the other day, totally outa the blue....

Could always view thums in my photo files and slect to open with the standard Win Photo/Fax viewer.
Now, no thumbs appear and my photos won't open. I have switched the default viewer to Internet Explorer for the moment.

Any ideas how to restore the viewer?

If not any free ware to use instead?

Using Win XP SP2, all fully uptodate

thanks

Hi Jack (no pun intended) :)

Try this:

Click Start
Run
Type in this:

regsvr32 shimgvw.dll

Click OK

I assumed you or some else that uses your computer might have applied one of the early fixes for the WMF vulnerability.

Last week there was an alert about a microsoft vulnerability (WMF). One of the early fix's simply disabled windows picture and fax viewer.
The steps in #2 enabled it again.

If you have the latest windows updates as you said in #1 you should now be protected against the vulnerability.

The freeware "Irfanview" makes a Very good replacement for Image n Fax Viewer.

It's been so long since I've seen WIAFV ... I can't remember what all it can't do.
