A couple of problems here. When I hit Ctrl+Alt+Del, I only get the Tasks that are running. I used to get the Task Manager with all the tabs - applications, processes, performance, networking, and users. Now, nothing. I don't remember changing anything that would affect this. Because of this, I can't shut down applications that screw up or ones that I want to turn off for a specific period. Anyone have any suggestions here? Help!

Have you tried running: sfc /scannow , to repair the system files?

Does the taskmanager just open and immediately close?
Doe the same thing happen with regedit?

If so, you might want to do a good virus and spyware scan.

I don't know about sfc /scannow. What does that do? Also, Taskmanager never comes up, just a generic box with only Task and status headings as well as "end task", "switch to", and "New Task" buttons at the bottom. I can't even close it back up unless I go to the taskbar and right click the monitor button and hit exit. Also, this weekend I did a speeddisk (defrag) and both a thorough virus scan (NIS) and Spyware check (Spy Sweeper) both with totally up to date definitions. They didn't find much and all were deleted successfully.

If you can open Help and Support on the Start Menu and type SFC in the search window you'll find a lot of information there.

I got into the Help and Support. To be quite honest, never knew it was there - I never used it before. I did check out the sfc/scannow function and then went ahead and did it. I rebooted but nothing has changed. By the way, I was away from the computer when the sfc/scannow finished. It was keeping progress in a window but when I returned, it was gone. Was there supposed to be any report or anything to let you know if it actually had to replace/repair screwed up files? I also ran hijackthis and found a lot more items running than a previous scan a few months ago. Here's the logfile. Any suggestions regarding this as well? Maybe the problems are interrelated?

Weatherbug, Limewire, and sometimes InCD, can cause problems.
I would uninstall the first two in add-remove programs first of all.

Although I have heard that before, they have all been on the computer for the entire time (nearly a year) and this problem has only surfaced in the past 3-4 weeks. The serious slowdown has occurred only in the past few days. It's taken 5-7 minutes to start the computer up for quite some time now. Any help with these issues would be appreciated. I have not used the "safe mode" before, how is that done?

Great tip on the CCleaner! I used it after I had done a "window washer" clean and it still picked up over 40 mbs of crap to clean out. Great indepth control, too. Also, I eliminated what you said, along with a couple of other choice items and the startup was noticibly faster. Thanks! Unfortunately, I still am not able to run Windows Task Manager. Ctrl+Alt+Del still only brings up the generic box with tasks only and nothing else. Any ideas?
