    Hello
I have a laptop of which i have reinstalled windows.
I have XP HOME EDITION SP3
I have started to download & install the updates but run into problems.
I was told that there are 99 updates so i continued.
A few are installed but then the others fail ??
I rtestart pc and do the same again, chipping away at the updates i now have 68 left.
I now cant install the others no matter what i do.
I have followed certain threads but no joy.
I used micorsofts fix me tool which said it had fixed a problem but still 68 left.
Please could you advise what i can do to sort this problem.

    Thanks very muhc

Please download FarbarServiceScanner and run it on the computer with the issue.

Make sure the following options are checked:
    Internet Services
    Windows Firewall
    System Restore
    Security Center/Action Center
    Windows Update

    Press "Scan".
It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
Please copy and paste the log to your reply.

Please download MINITOOLBOX and run it.

    Checkmark following boxes:

    Report IE Proxy Settings
    Report FF Proxy Settings
    List content of Hosts
    List IP configuration
    List Winsock Entries
List last 10 Event Viewer log
    List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size

Click Go and post the result.

I've done hard drive formats and clean reinstalls of Windows XP SP3 dozens of times on various computers, so I'll give you my 2 cents worth.

After Windows XP SP3 is installed and the computer is restarted, ignore the updates alert in the taskbar.

Go to the Windows Update site and do a "Custom" scan.

Once the scan is finished and the 100+ high-priority updates are displayed, uncheck the ones that are associated with

    Internet Explorer 8
    Windows Media Player 11
    .NET Framework (all versions)

Leave the others checked and then select them to be downloaded and installed.

You can then go back later and select and install them.

    Hi
    Thanks for the reply.

Here are the 2 attached log files as requested.
In the mini tool box there is no list last 10 event viewer log so i have ticked list last 10 event viewer errors.

I have tried many microsoft help threads all day but no joy.

When you do a clean reinstall of Windows XP, you need to get it completely up-to-date before you install a bunch of programs and extras.

It looks like you installed AVG 2012 and Skype 5.8 and others before you did that.

I have done all the above.
When i check for updates i am told nothing to download as they are allready downloaded and just to install them.
I click on install updates and wait for a while.
    I then see update 1 of 71....
Then after a minute or two i am told the same as before.....the following updates were not installed, then the same list as before.

I am still trying just in case of web site issues.
