Solved: Wireless connection but no ethernet connection

I have a Netgear DG834 wireless router which gives me wireless connection to the internet but I cannot connect by any of the ethernet ports. I get an icon saying I'm connected but no packet data is transferring. If I try to "repair" the network I get an error message saying Windows could not complete the repair as TCP/IP is not enabled ...it is enabled when I click into the properties tab.

I don't know what other information would be useful to include. I'm running Windows XP pro with SP3 and as I say the wireless connection runs just fine (well 99% of the time).

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Please connect by ethernet and wireless and show ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

You have no wired Ethernet hardware that is recognized by Windows.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type devmgmt.msc

Please respond to all the following steps.

  1. Under Network adapters, please tell me all the devices listed.
  2. Are there any devices under Network adapters that have a red x displayed?
  3. Also, are there any devices anywhere in the Device Manager display with yellow ? or ! displayed?

1) Under network adapters there are 1394 Net adapter and D-link Airplus Wireless USB adapter
2) There are no network adapters that have an X displayed
3) There are a whole host of items with ?! marks against them under "other devices" eg. Mutimedia Audio Controller, Other PCI Bridge Device, PCI memory controller, SM Bus Controller, Unknown device.

Sounds like I have a lot of work to do eh!

Install the chipset drivers and then the ethernet driver. Get them from your drivers or resource CD or download them from your PC (or motherboard) manufacturer's web site. If you have a Dell, use your Service Tag for easier searching.

Then revisit Device Manager and see if you are still missing any drivers.
