I was wondering if it is possible to make a wireless hotspot from a wireless connection? I would like to play my Nintendo DS on WIFI but it only supports a WEP encrypted router. The router that my laptop is recieving the wireless connection from does not support a WEP connection. I was thinking if there was a way to make a hotspot with my laptop so my Nintendo DS can connect to it. I do have the Nintendo USB Connector which is a Soft AP through the USB port. Is it required to have a wired connection to make a hotspot?
If that Nintendo USB Connector is a wireless adapter that can act as an access point then you can use it, but it will, of course, have to be connected to a USB port. Not being familiar with the device I don't know whether it is a direct connection or through a short USB cable.

ok...I'm not sure if the router does not support WEP but I will not change the encryption due to security reasons (since WEP is easier to hack than WPA2.)
The Nintendo USB Connector is a wireless adapter, it can act as a access point and it is a direct connection. The problem I have with it is that once I connect it to my laptop it automatically cuts my wireless connection. I live in a dorm and the router is in another room so I am wirelessly connected to it with my laptop.
Why not purchase a wireless access point and connect to the Nintendo using a wired connection. The wireless link between the router and the WAP can have WPA/WPA2 encryption.
Thanks guys for the replies but I solved it. I just reinstalled the whole thing and it works now. I guess before something was conflicting therefore knocking me offline.
