Hello there. Im having some problems with my computers wireless internet, and if anyone can help Ill be forever grateful.
Ever since I sent my computer to be fixed, my wireless internet doesnt work. The computer recognizes all the wireless connections that I can use, but it just cant seem to connect to them. The only way I can use the internet is by using a cable. I have no idea what to do regarding this problem, or where to start.
Heres some info about my computer:

    Machine name: IBM-89B3B19E0F9
Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gfe.070227-2300)
    System Manufacturer: IBM
    System Model: TP-70
BIOS: Phoenix FirstBIOS(tm) Notebook Pro Version 2.0 for IBM ThinkPad
    Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1.73GHz

I dont know if this info is helpful or not (I hope it is), but if there is something I am missing then tell me and Ill look for it. Thanks. ^^

Connect via ethernet and try to connect via wireless and show ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:

(For Vista type CMD in the Search box after Start)

    Type the following commands:

    nbtstat -n

    IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.

Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

You need to enable DHCP on the wireless interface.

Select Start > Settings > Network Connections.

    • Double-click the Connection icon of the connection you wish to modify to open the Local Area Connection Status window.
    • Click the Properties button to open the Local Area Connection Properties window.
    • Click to highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
    • Click the Properties button to open the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window.
    • TCP/IP Properties window, IP Address tab
    • Select Obtain an IP address automatically.
    • Select Obtain DNS server address automatically.
    • Click OK to return to the Local Area Connection Properties window.
    • Click OK to return to the Network Connections window.

Ok I did that =) its definitely a start, because the internet is responding, but I dont know why it still isnt quite fixed =S...
Im getting limited/bad signal, and no matter how I try to fix it, it just wont budge. I tried using the "repair" button, but it didnt work. It said that it couldnt "renovar la direccion de IP"...renew IP direction I think it is heh...but the point is, it isnt quite working yet and Im not sure why exactly.

If your network is secured disable encryption on the router and try to connect.

If still failure see if you have the latest Intel driver from your PC manufacturer's web site.

If successful you should be able to re-enable encryption and reconnect.

    Let's see this again.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

    IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

    If you followed John's instructions for setting the wireless to dynamic the above should have been 'Si' for the "Descripción. . . . . . . . . . . : Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection."

If your network is secured, temporarily set the router's encryption mode to 'disabled' or 'off' so that we don't have to worry about getting the encryption key correct until after we get a basic wireless connection working.

John's post #5 is probably the best and most detailed guide we'll ever find for setting the TCP/IP properties. With one small correction: where it says "Local Area" you should substitute "Wireless" or the exact name of the connection you're working with.

For the router's encryption you login to the router (best with an ethernet connection), navigate to the wireless section, click on the dropdown arrow by Encryption Mode and make your selection. More details can be found in the User Manual, which you access on the CD or download from the manufacturer's web site, support section.
