All of my wireless devices are able to connect to my wifi but my desktop computer which is a wired connection gives me Error 1068: Dependency service or group failed to start.

In ipconfig/all I show: IP routing enabled:no wins proxy enabled: no and the default gateway address is blank.

I have Windows 7 64x and my ISP is AT&T Uverse and they say my gateway should be plug and play.

I saw this post http://forums.techguy.org/networking/1053204-wins-proxy-ip-routing-not.html and I tried everything listed but no luck.

I also tried everything that was detailed in the following post : http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...pendency/7963d72a-5d73-44fe-8316-058c46235737 (Yes I did backup the registry first)

Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated!

can we see an ipconfig /all please
    is DHCP enabled ?

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Safemode with networking
with a cable connected from PC to router
check the cable - see if there is a light on the router associated with the cable port used , also check if you have a green/yellow light on the PC LAN port (some PCs do not have any lights on the LAN port - so ignore)
    - try safemode with networking (sometimes wireless does not work with safemode )

For Windows 8 - see below

For other windows version, XP,Vista, W7 as the PC starts keep tapping F8 - a menu appears - choose
safemode with networking - see if that works

    For windows 8

    http://www.7tutorials.com/5-ways-boot-safe-mode-windows-8-windows-81
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode
    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows-8/ss/windows-8-safe-mode.htm

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
    ipconfig /all

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - post back the results in a reply here.

If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply
Note: you will see entries named Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface: we dont need to see that information - JUST the information above those entries

    For Windows 8
To open a Cmd Prompt or an Administrator Cmd prompt from the Desktop.
    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/open-an-elevated-command-prompt-in-windows-8/
Use Win + X and choose Command Prompt or Command Prompt (Admin) from the list.

For windows version, XP, Vista, W7
Hold the Windows key and press R

    Now type CMD

Now press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

    ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results into notepad and then automatically open the notepad and display on your screen.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results into a reply here
    to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will now be highlighted
    Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy

Now go back to the forum - goto the reply and then right click in the reply box and paste the results.
The results from the notepad should now appear in the forum reply.

Correct, the only other information is what you asked that I exclude, The tunneling Pseudo-Interface. Although the media state shows: Media disconnected and the physical address is all zeros.

Here is the rest of it:

Tunnel adapter Local Area Connection* 9:

    Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
    Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
    Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface
    Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-E0
    DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
    Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes

    Tunnel adapter isatap.gateway.pace.com:

    Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
    Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
    Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Microsoft ISATAP Adapter #2
    Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-E0
    DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
    Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes

Also, when I started my computer this morning I received another error message: Setup Error - The setup controller has encountered a problem during install. Please review the log files for further information on the error. I am not sure what was trying to install.

I can not open Microsoft Office either. It says: Something went wrong. We couldn't start your program. Please try starting it again. If it won't start, try repairing Office from "Programs and Features" in the Control Panel.

sounds like you have quite a few issues

Try a recovery to a date it worked OK

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

Restore PC to an Earlier Date & Time

    Go Start>>All Programs>>Accessories>>System Tools>>System Restore

    • Click in the radio button Choose a different restore point
    • Click Next
    • put a tick in Show more restore points
    • Pick a Date before this happened
    • Click Next
This should restore the PC to that time & date

you may need to use safemode to do the restore. As the PC starts keep tapping F8 - a menu will appear - choose safemode

Unfortunately, when I try System Restore it says: System Restore does not appear to be functioning correctly on this system. A Volume Shadow Copy Service component encountered an unexpected error. Check the Application event log for more information (0x80042302).

I am in Safe Mode with networking.

Hi, good advice from etaf, the error 1068 refers to a dependency service not starting, you should have given us the full message, we need to see your running services.

Go to start, search and type:- cmd right click on the returned cmd.exe and select "run as administrator" at the prompt copy paste all below in red:-

    net start > 0 & notepad 0 press enter

Please post the notepad outcome here, and give us the full 1068 error message.

Here are the results from the check disk. I had to run it twice as I wasn't home when it ran the first time. [IMG]

Here is the results from the scan
    Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]

    C:\Windows\system32>net start trustedinstaller
The Windows Modules Installer service is starting.
The Windows Modules Installer service was started successfully.

    C:\Windows\system32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
    Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

My husband went and bought a new ethernet card and installed that to see if that helped but no hardware is detected. The device shows up in Device Manager.

Hi, are you sure you posted all the notepad outcome? You are seriously short on running services, I don't know how your system is even running....

Open a cmd as admin (as shown post #9) and copy paste all below in red:-

    sc query state= all > 0 & notepad 0 press enter

Please post the notepad outcome here (it should be quite long)

We ended up wiping the computer and reinstalling the OS. We are able to acces the Internet and everything is working again. We decided to wipe it because more and more errors popped up. I don't know what happened but something was systematically killing my computer. Nothing showed up in all the scans that I did but something was wrong.

Thank you both for all your help.
