I'm having a similar problem to Chris Chu - http://forums.techguy.org/web-email/888744-need-help-have-wireless-but.html

I just upgraded from Qwest DSL 1.5 Mbps with an Actiontec GT701 modem to the 12Mbps service with the Actiontec Q1000 modem, set up with just the default options.

I'm having a very peculiar problem. I can see the Q1000's GUI control panel (192.168.0.1) and browse the Internet from a computer connected via wi-fi. However, a computer connected viaEthernet doesn't see the web or even the Q1000 control center. A ping from the Ethernet-connected machine times out. However, the Ethernet-connected machine CAN see the other machines connected to the Q1000 - I played an MP3 file from one of the other machines. So the router function for the LAN is working, but the Q1000 doesn't respond to a ping or let me see the external 'Net or even browse to the Q1000's GUI panel.

I've tried this with just one machine connected directly via Cat5 and none of the other Ethernet ports on the Q1000 used. I've done that from two different PCs, using 4 different Cat5 cables, and trying different ports on the Q1000. I've also tried it going through a D-Link switch with the same results from 4 different PCs.
All of these connections worked with the GT701 and the 1.5 Mbps service, but not with the Q1000. We even tried replacing the Q1000 with the same results. (Firmware versions were QAQ01-31.00L.34 on the first Q1000 and QAQ01-31.00L.33 on the second one.)

Qwest tech support hasn't solved it, but suggested "contact your PC manufacturer".

    I'm stumped. Any ideas?

I rebooted my main PC in Safe Mode with Networking and still could not ping the Q1000

Well, I doubt this is a malware issue if suddenly a number of computers have the issue.

Let's see this from one of the wirelessly connected machines and one of the wired ones.

    Try these simple tests.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

NOTE: For the items below in red surrounded with < >, see comments below for the actual information content, they are value substitutions from the previous IPCONFIG command output! Do NOT type <computer_IP_address> into the command, that won't work. Also, the < and > in the text is to identify the parameters, they are also NOT used in the actual commands.

Do NOT include the <> either, they're just to identify the values for substitution.

    IPCONFIG /ALL

    PING <computer_IP_address>

    PING <default_gateway_address>

    PING <dns_servers>

    PING 74.125.45.100

    PING yahoo.com

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

<computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. (For Vista/Win7, the IPv4 Address)

<default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<dns_servers> - The IP address of the first (or only) address for DNS Servers, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Try the failing wired machines booted in Safe Mode with Networking and see if they get a connection.

Failure to ping the router is often a cable defect or a firewall issue.

I notice that ChrisCu's problem was solved by upgrading to jre 1.6.0_17, while HijackThis shows jre6 on your machine. The problem is so strange that perhaps that difference is significant.

I have the same device with the same problem. My PS3 is the only device I use the wired connection for, and the problem is intermittent. I can be playing, and then it will just drop my connection. I checked for firmware updates, but there are none listed on the qwest site.

I finally powercycled the Q1000 a couple more times (which had already been tried), and it's now working. Thanks everyone for all the help.

As a techie, it's frustrating to not know just what the problem was, but nevertheless I'm glad to have it working.
