 I am editing a large anthology of short stories from many countries. Two manuscripts have me stumped! Somehow, the horizontal scale in Word is reversed! Instead of running 1 to 6, left to right, it runs 6 to 1, left to right. It makes it almost impossible to reformat the stories to fit the anthology. I have written to both authors, asking for their help in putting the horizontal scale back to normal, but time is important to my publisher, and I'm hoping someone in our Tech Guy Forum has a solution for me.

Not that it probably matters, but I'm using Word 2003.

If the default language that has been set for the document is Arabic or Hebrew or any other Right - to - Left type, this could affect the ruler.

The simplest method would be to copy - Paste into another blank document to see if the ruler retains its L-R as you require.

One of the stories came from Israel; the other, from England. I tried a copy & paste, but as soon as I moved the cursor inside the document, the ruler scale flipped back to 6 to 1. Any other ideas?

If there is no formatting needed, use copy - paste special and select unformatted text.

That will remove the problem that is causing it.

Sounds like the originating computer is set for "right to left"

Eureka! The *paste special* with unformatted text worked like downtown! I'll mark this Solved.
