    or goto Start>Run>type C:\Windows\inf
look for a file called srchasst.inf
right click it and click Install
insert the XP CD when prompts
and let it complete the installtion

    restart and now check ??
if same problem the boot into safemode and check for the problem there ?
    post back results !!

or Try turning off the indexing service by clicking Start->Run->services.msc
Scroll down to locate the Indexing Service item, right-click it and click Properties.
Set it to disabled and reboot.

if none of that helps then you most do a windows xp repair install

but check for virus and spyware before you do the repair

I already did the INF thing at the advice of someone else here in the shop and that caused no problems, It also runs fine in safe mode. Sorry for not mentioning that before, Im a tad bit tired today, I just disabled indexing and am going to reboot...

I have tried turning off the indexing service and that didn't help in my case. How do you do a windows xp repair? I have been fighting this for weeks. Thank you.

Thank you Naruto2004. I was afraid it would be a really "drastic" move. I may have to try it, but I will have to get up the courage. I'm not much of a nerd.
