Yahoo Pops is supposed to disguise itself as a browser and collect your yahoo email. Since Yahoo stopped pop access in April of 2002, I was happy to hear about this program. I've got everything set up, but it doesn't work.
According to another message board someone else couldn't get it to work on XP either. On the sourceforge page, there is no official info that says it won't work on XP. But I think there must be something wrong.

Does anyone know the definitive answer?

The software is available at SourceForge.

    Hiya

When you say its not working, do you mean nothing happens at all, or are you getting some error's popping up? If its the latter, can you give us the full details.

Which version of Yahoo Pops have you got?

Apparently, version 0.4 is broken, and one of the older versions, 0.3.9 is working:

If you have that version, have you tried disabling the XP firewall, to see if that helps:

I've been using 0.3.9, it seems to work at least some of the time. After 0.4.0 quit working, I've been having problems from time to time, mainly with Yahoopops not deleting emails after downloading them.

Are you using Outlook or Outlook express? Try this:

I'm using Outlook- perhaps thats why I had trouble, I had it set to recieve all messages, and sometimes I'd be getting 50-100 at one time.

I tried 0.4, and it went through the motions, but downloaded nothing. I downgraded to 0.38, and it seems to work OK with W2K. I installed it on another machine and use it as a mail server, since I already have SpamPal running on this one. It's very nice to get the Yahoo mail with a POP client, thanks for pointing out this software exists! :D

Sorry about the huge delay. I totally forgot about this thread. When I tried 0.4 it would tell me that it was contacting Yahoo, and it would never download the messages. I found an older version (0.3.9) and it works just fine. Apparently, something isn't working with 0.4 that might (not) be related to XP. 0.3.9 does exactly what I wanted and I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to get a lot of email off Yahoo.

I'm using it with Eudora and love it. :D

    Thanks for the replies eddie5659.

Thanks for the feedback. I may mention this program to a few mates who use Yahoo :)
